Our Eco-Safety approach:
much more beyond a tyre
Advancing with Bio-based and Recycled materials
We push innovation to increase Bio-based and Recycled materials whilst decreasing the use of fossil-based ones.
Discover more
The benefits of a conscious product choice
We reduce the rolling resistance of our tyres (positively impacting on CO2 emissions) without any compromise on safe driving conditions.
Discover more
Reducing climate impact
In our production process we set ambitious targets to minimise environmental impact and CO2. Targets Approved by Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

Local for Local distribution approach
On-going monitored activity on international logistic operations to reduce CO2 emissions. Optimised supply process, with local-for-local distribution model.

End-of-life management
We invest in recycling technologies with the aim to give new value to end-of-life tyres and generate valuable secondary input material.

Advancing with Bio-based and Recycled materials
Bio-Based
Materials that have biological origins, to replace fossil and mineral-based materials.
Recycled
Materials derived from the conversion of waste, to avoid the use of virgin materials.

Our non-fossil origin materials

Natural Rubber

Learn about FSC™ certification

Natural Rubber is the original and essential element of tyre production, ensuring UNPARALLELED TEAR RESISTANCE.

In our roadmap on responsible procurement of Natural Rubber, we have proudly developed the world’s first ever tyres containing FSC™-certified Natural Rubber.

Natural Rubber
Rayon

Rayon cellulose is an elemental part of the tyre carcass. Collected from forests and hardwood plantations, it provides HIGH TENACITY and STABILITY.

Rayon
Lignin
PATENTED

Lignin is a huge waste product of the pulp and paper industry. Pirelli developed technologies to exploit its key properties leading to:

INCREASED DURABILITY
guaranteed higher mileage.

REDUCED ROLLING RESISTANCE
guaranteed lower CO2 emissions.

Bio and Circular Polymers

Learn about ISCC+ certification

When it comes to synthetic rubber, our approach is responsible:
GUARANTEEING EQUAL PERFORMANCE while AVOIDING THE DEPLETION OF VIRGIN MATERIALS. We achieve this by progressively replacing fossil-sourced polymers with ISCC+ Certified Bio and Circular Polymers.

Bio and Circular Polymers
Bio Resins and Veg Oils

Bio Resins and Veg Oils are plasticizers deriving from vegetal biomass, such as plant seeds, trees and forests.

Bio Resins are highly versatile, providing a BETTER BALANCE OF DRY AND WET PERFORMANCE.

Vegetable Oils have very low glass transition temperature allowing BETTER WINTER PERFORMANCE.

Recovered Carbon Black

Recovered Carbon Black derives FROM DIRECT PYROLYSIS OF END-OF-LIFE TYRES.

Pirelli was the first tyre maker to introduce Recovered Carbon Black in normal production as a semi reinforced filler able to replicate virgin Carbon Black.

Rice Husk Ash Silica

Rice Husk is an industrial waste from rice cultivation, not suitable for human nor animal feeding. Its ASH IS RE-PURPOSED and TRANSFORMED INTO SILICA to replace mineral sand silica.

Tyres efficiency

Setting high standards for efficiency and safety

Improved energy efficiency with low rolling resistance, without any compromise on safety.

Tyres made to last

Wear reduction at source through new generation compounds and higher mileage products compared with previous generation of the same product lines.

Our commitment to reaching a whole new level

Reducing climate impact
How we are tackling decarbonisation¹:
  • At 2023 we have reduced own CO₂ emission² by 45% (vs 2018), planning to reach the overall Net Zero target³ by 2040 (90% CO₂ emission reduction vs 2018)
  • We are using only renewable electricity⁴ in our plants in Europe, North and South America, getting 100% Worldwide by 2025
  • More than 90 energy efficiency projects on-going.

Local for Local distribution approach
Our effective and efficient logistic model is able to respond to local markets’ needs and requests, optimising accuracy and delivery timings and reducing logistic impacts on CO2 emissions.

End-of-life management
Globally, one billion tyres reach the end of their useful lives every year¹. End of life tyres can be transformed into valuable secondary input material.
For this reason, we cooperate with international and local stakeholders to develop sustainable collection models. We also promote joint development agreements with key suppliers to enhance the quality of material deriving from ELTs for effective tyre-in-tyre recycle.
