Home Road Motorcycles Ducati Multistrada V2: adrenaline and versatility

The Multistrada V2 is a mid-to-high displacement street enduro, powered by an 890 cc V-twin engine. This choice aims to blend excellent performance with an easy and comfortable riding experience. Within the Ducati line-up, it has a significant history: launched in 2016 as the Multistrada 950, it evolved in 2022 into the V2 version, which now presents a profound restyling. The evolution is so significant that it can be considered a true generational leap, as everything changes: the engine, the chassis, the silhouette. The Multistrada V2 MY25 is more modern, sleeker, and lighter, and the new V-twin engine represents a major technological milestone for Ducati. Let's explore why, starting right here.

The new Ducati V2 engine

The Multistrada V2 boasts a completely redesigned engine. It retains the classic Ducati 90° V-twin architecture and many of its core features, including the electronic controls package. The designers focused on lightness: weighing just 54.9 kg, it significantly contributes to the overall weight reduction, shedding an impressive 18 kg compared to the previous version. It weighs 199 kg ready to ride with an empty tank (202 kg for the V2 S version).

In terms of mechanics, there are significant updates: the valve train features variable valve timing on the intake side, and the valves use conventional coil springs instead of the desmodromic system. This change offers advantages in simplicity, maintenance, and power delivery. The displacement is 890 cc, thanks to slight adjustments in bore and stroke (previously 937 cc), but performance remains largely unchanged, with a peak power of 115 HP at 10,750 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 8,250 rpm. The difference in peak values is minimal, but the new V-twin engine delivers a much fuller power curve at lower revs, enhancing the riding pleasure in touring use. This is amplified by the functionality of the new, faster, and more precise electronic up/down quickshifter, which comes as standard.

Monocoque frame and electronic suspension

The chassis has been completely redesigned to improve comfort and riding enjoyment. The frame is a monocoque aluminium design to which the engine is attached, serving as a stressed member and incorporating the swingarm pivot, also made of aluminium.

The new Multistrada V2 is available in two versions: V2, the base model; V2 S, the top-of-the-line version, featuring semi-active DSS suspension. The base version is equipped with Marzocchi suspension, including a 45 mm fork and a shock absorber with a progressive linkage, both fully adjustable. The V2 S features semi-active electronic suspension (Ducati Skyhook Suspension), which uses real-time electronic control to limit dive under braking (antidive) and squat under acceleration (antisquat). There are three quick-select settings to suit your preferences: Dynamic, for sporty riding; Comfort, for a smooth and relaxed ride; Low Grip, effective on slippery surfaces; Off-road, for off-road adventures. Additionally, the Minimum Preload function allows the rear suspension to be lowered, making it easier to touch the ground with your feet (activated via the handlebar controls).

Braking is handled by a Brembo system with dual 320 mm front discs and radial monobloc calipers, supported by an advanced cornering ABS system with three intervention levels, ranging from sporty to suitable for challenging surfaces.

Dual personality: enduro and sport-touring

The Multistrada V2 is suited for both on-road and light off-road riding, while retaining the distinct sporty character typical of Ducati. It is equipped with a 19" front wheel paired with a 17" rear wheel. The tyres are Pirelli SCORPION™ Trail II, designed for the latest generations of Adventure-Touring and Street Enduro motorcycles. They feature a semi-knobbed tread with an aggressive look and were chosen for their versatility, balancing sport-touring performance on asphalt with off-road capability on gravel trails. The structure ensures high stability and precise handling, while the compound provides excellent grip in both dry and wet conditions. Additionally, the centre tread is more durable to ensure increased mileage.

Electronic features

The Multistrada V2 comes with a comprehensive suite of electronic features that significantly enhance safety and riding pleasure in all situations. It offers five Riding Modes: Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro and Wet. Each mode is preset with specific (modifiable) values for engine power and response, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and engine braking. This ensures the optimal combination for various situations: sporty riding, touring and urban commuting, and safety on challenging surfaces and off-road.

Additionally, standard features include cruise control, a USB port, emergency braking flashers for sudden stops, and, in the case of the V2 S, the option to activate turn-by-turn navigation. The system is managed through a new 5" colour TFT dashboard, featuring multiple screens that help maximise the electronic capabilities for the best riding experience.
