The pursuit of excellence, the strong Italian heritage, the successes in motorsport competitions and the long industrial history: many are the factors that unite the brands of MV Agusta and Pirelli. Both companies, geographically very close to each other, equally represent a symbol of Italian excellence in the world, and are characterised by the ability to create technologically advanced products and with style. Pirelli has been a supplier of original equipment tyres to MV Agusta for decades and stands by its side even in 2020, the year in which the brand from Varese celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary.

THE HISTORY OF MV AGUSTA

Meccanica Verghera Srl. was born on 19th January 1945 from the Agusta family, at the time an important reality in the aeronautical industry, who could no longer manufacture airplanes in the immediate post-war period and decided to express their passion for speed and technology by building motorcycles. The first model developed for competitions was the MV98, with a 98cc engine, to which it followed a luxury road version, much awaited by the growing audience of racing fans. Over the years, many MV Agusta racers became motorcycling legends: from Franco Bertoni to Carlo Ubbiali, Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read. The story of their victories is intertwined with that of equally legendary MV Agusta motorcycle models. The one between MV Agusta and Giacomo Agostini is still the most famous combination in the history of motorcycling with an undefeated 13 world titles, 18 Italian championships and 10 Tourist Trophy, celebrated later with the famous F4 Agostini limited series model.

In 1992, the Castiglioni family acquired the MV Agusta brand and transferred production to their factories in Schiranna, on Lake Varese, where it is still located today. Under the leadership of Claudio Castiglioni, the brand acquires further fame and prestige with the production of motorcycles such as the F4, the brand's first superbike which is still considered one of the most beautiful bikes ever built. Claudio also invented the concept of "naked", an absolute novelty in the world of motorcycles. Since 2011 it was his son Giovanni who took up the challenge of continuous innovation. Giovanni also actively and successfully developed links with world-class excellence such as Pirelli, creating synergies that broadened the company's horizons.

THE CURRENT PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN PIRELLI AND MV AGUSTA

After decades of technical collaborations, in 2017 Pirelli and MV Agusta announce they have reached a new partnership agreement for which Pirelli is officially selected as the Sole Tire Supplier for all the motorcycles produced by the company of Schiranna. This means that all models currently in production, and all those that MV Agusta will market in the future, will be fitted as original equipment exclusively with Pirelli tyre.

This agreement officially confirms the mutual collaboration between these two important Italian companies appreciated all over the world and united by values such as style and maximum innovation, recognised by all motorcycle lovers.

To celebrate this important agreement a limited edition model was born inspired by a very successful bike, the Brutale 800 RR, customised by the Castiglioni Research Center in collaboration with Pirelli Design, the laboratory of Pirelli specialised in the creation of design projects with excellence.

So the Brutale 800 RR PIRELLI was born, thanks to a personalisation focused on components and colours to underline the exclusive partnership. The first version includes a matt black base, with glossy inserts painted red. The Pirelli logo is also red, on the sides of the tank. The DIABLO™ logo, identifying the range of Pirelli high performance tyres, is present on the tank, in the area between the fuel cap and the tank protection itself. The second version has a grey base with blue inserts. The saddle stands out for the stitching in the colour of each of the two versions proposed. Painted are also the airbox intake grids and there are news also for the rims: to reduce the weight and increase the handling of the motorcycle, the technicians decided to mount components of F4 derivation, which are characterized by the racing design, very essential and elegant. The rear one, then, has the widest channel, now 6 inches, to accommodate the new tire size, specific to this version of the Brutale 800 RR.

The tyres obviously also play an extremely important role: compared to the standard model with original equipment DIABLO™ RED III tyres, the Brutale 800 RR PIRELLI is fitted with DIABLO™ SUPERCORSA SP tyres in the sizes 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 ZR17 rear. A very scenic option, to be chosen when ordering the Brutale 800 RR PIRELLI, is represented by the limited edition tyres with coloured sides, available in the red or blue version depending on the colour chosen for the motorcycle.
