For drivers seeking performance and safety in winter conditions, the new tyre designed for high-performance models, the P Zero Winter 2, is Pirelli's most up-to-date offering, boasting the highest European label classification ("class A") for wet grip on all sizes and excellent braking on snow, qualities for which the specialised website Tyre Reviews has proclaimed it the winner of the "Winter Test" comparative test for the 2024/2025 season.
To find the best technical solutions during the development phase of the P Zero Winter 2, Pirelli's R&D team used virtual design to obtain a product with a completely different design compared to its predecessor, which had already achieved excellent results in various usage conditions.
“The Pirelli P Zero Winter 2 proves to be an excellent choice for drivers seeking high-performance in winter conditions," states the recent Tyre Reviews review. “The tyre has proven to be very effective in snow performance, winning all tests, and has shown excellent results in wet and dry handling”.
For this tyre, specific versions have also been developed for those who drive electric and plug-in hybrid cars: it is the P Zero Winter 2 with Elect™ marking, a technology that enhances the characteristics of electrified vehicles, starting with range thanks to specific work on rolling resistance. Additionally, some versions feature the innovative Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS), which significantly reduces road noise by up to 3 dB. This technology, using a sound-absorbing sponge, is especially beneficial for electric vehicles, where a quiet ride is highly valued compared to vehicles with internal combustion engines.
Compared to the previous generation, the new P Zero Winter 2 features a visibly different tread pattern, now directional as opposed to the asymmetrical design of its predecessor. The innovative tread design has significantly enhanced snow performance, braking, and handling also on dry roads. Consistent rigidity and grip across the tyre's contact patch ensure superior traction in all winter conditions. The sipes align perfectly with the main grooves, allowing the tread pattern to flex and adapt to the road surface. These sipes, with a 3D structure that guarantees the same effectiveness throughout the tyre's lifetime, are wider at the part in contact with the ground and narrower towards the inside, an element that increases the ability to grip snowy surfaces while optimizing driving performance. The main grooves are interconnected by a network of smaller grooves, creating a tread pattern that provides excellent grip on slippery roads, ensuring confident handling in all conditions.
BMW is one of the first automakers to adopt the innovative P Zero Winter 2, approving it as winter equipment for both the M5 and the i7. This version is the industry's first winter tyre to achieve the top "A" rating for rolling resistance. The P Zero Winter 2 has a proven track record of partnering with prestigious brands. For example, it was chosen to equip the Ferrari Daytona SP3.
