Porsche Italia announces the new Taycan Cup, set to begin in 2025
The “Porsche Taycan Cup” will kick off in Italy in 2025 and will feature Taycan Turbo GTs with the Weissach package, equipped with specially developed Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres featuring Elect technology. Journalists gathered at the Porsche Experience Center Franciacorta for the unveiling of the new one-make championship. They were treated to exhilarating time attack sessions on the track fully to appreciate the car's performance. The first edition of the championship will join forces with the Carrera Cup Italia, Italy's premier one-make series for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, sharing the same race weekends.
The Taycan Turbo GTs, equipped with the Weissach package, are purpose-built for track performance. By eliminating various amenities, such as the rear seats, this model prioritises a more favourable power-to-weight ratio, enhancing its performance. The car further benefits from weight reduction techniques and aerodynamic enhancements, incorporating multiple aerodynamic elements on the front and underbody, along with a fixed rear spoiler.
A real-time marshalling system will be installed in each vehicle, allowing drivers to receive all race control messages and updates instantly. Adding to the excitement, the car features an “attack mode” like those found in Formula E, delivering a temporary power boost of up to 120 kW for 10 seconds.
With its rally-inspired compounds, the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyre, designed exclusively for the Taycan, sets a new benchmark in road tyre performance. It delivers exceptional grip on dry surfaces, precise cornering, and consistent performance, making it the ultimate choice for those seeking maximum track-day thrills. The tyres' reduced siping on the outer shoulder enhances cornering stability, especially under high lateral forces. The tread pattern is carefully designed to ensure quick and consistent heat build-up across the entire contact patch, optimising grip and performance.
The Elect technology, pioneered on the first Taycan in 2019, will give the competing cars superior grip to handle the instant torque delivery of electric motors and the added weight of electric vehicles.
