P Zero Elect: the perfect fit for the Polestar 2 BST edition 270

Home Road Cars Tyres P Zero Elect: the perfect fit for the Polestar 2 BST edition 270

Pirelli has created a ‘perfect fit' for the new Polestar 2 BST edition 270: a bespoke P Zero Elect tyre with dedicated ‘POL' markings on the sidewall, to indicate the high load index and unique characteristics that this tyre has been specifically developed to meet. The Polestar 2 BST edition 270 is a limited run of just 270 cars that showcases the performance and handling of Polestar's second car. A UHP tyre in 245/35R21 size was created to match the specific characteristics of the car: an electric sedan with increased power to 350kW and 680Nm. This joint development has resulted in a high performance product without compromising safety. In fact, this new P Zero earned the highest score on the European tyre label for wet braking.

ELECT TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE ELECTRIC DRIVING

Pirelli's Elect marking indicates that the technologies within this P Zero tyre have been developed to complement the unique characteristics of battery-powered cars like the Polestar 2 BST edition 270. The tread compounds are specifically designed to control the 680 Nm of torque put down onto the road from the off, offering immediate grip and limiting wear caused by wheelspin. Reduced rolling resistance prolongs the life of the batteries and consequently the car's range, while the reinforced structure supports the heavy weight of the batteries. Road noise is kept low so as not to compromise quietness, thanks also to Pirelli's Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) technology – which further reduces road noise thanks to the sound-absorbing sponge inside the tyre.

HL MARKING FOR HIGH LOADS

The HL (high load) marking on the sidewall of the P Zero for the new Polestar 2 BST edition 270 indicates that the tyre is capable of supporting the car and ensuring high levels of comfort even when subjected to significant stresses, for example in sporty driving. In fact, the HL-marked P Zero can support a weight that exceeds the weight sustained by a standard tyre by more than 20%, as well as 9% more than an XL tyre of the same size.

PIRELLI AND POLESTAR

The tyres especially developed for the Polestar 2 BST edition 270 mark a new chapter in Pirelli's collaboration with the Swedish manufacturer, which is entirely focussed on electric cars. The original Polestar 1, which launched the range, is equipped with P Zero tyres as original equipment and was one of the first vehicles to wear tyres with ‘Elect' markings. Modern digital design techniques have enhanced the development programme for these tyres, making the whole process faster, with the two companies continuing to work together on future projects.
