New Scorpion: the summer for the mobility of the future

Silent and safe: we present the new summer tyre from Pirelli, made especially for SUVs

Home Road Cars Tyres New Scorpion: the summer for the mobility of the future

The summer season is on its way and our desire to travel is stronger than ever, perhaps in a spacious and comfortable SUV. It is for these vehicles that Pirelli has created a new Scorpion summer tyre, capable of making your driving experience even safer and more sustainable. Thanks to a new asymmetric tread design, braking on both dry and wet roads is even better than the previous model, helping to make your drive even safer. The more homogeneous tyre footprint of the new tread also reduces rolling resistance and – as a result – fuel consumption, or battery use for electric vehicles.

SAFETY: FUNDAMENTAL IN THE DEVELOPMENT PHASE TOO

Safety was central to the design of the new Scorpion . In fact, thanks to the rigidity of the tread, the innovative design of the tread blocks, and the compound, braking has been improved on dry (7%) and wet (7%) compared to the previous Scorpion Verde. In fact, for these tyres the rating of the European tyre grading system are all class A or B on wet roads.

INNOVATIVE MATERIALS

The compound of the new Scorpion contains new-generation synthetic rubber that helps ensure the right balance between the product's various characteristics: low rolling resistance, excellent braking performance in wet conditions and uniform tread wear throughout the life of the product. Though the Scorpion's new compound has its origin in the technological experience already applied to the new Cinturato P7 tyres, it has been made more rigid to cope with the special qualities of this vehicle type. In fact, it is enriched with silica, specific resins with the task of increasing grip, and functionalised polymers – innovative elastomeric materials that improve interaction with the silica itself.

A COMPOUND WITH "MECHANICAL INTELLIGENCE"

The defining characteristic of the new compound is a form of "mechanical intelligence" that enables it to vary its behaviour according to driving conditions and temperature, providing the driver with a large window of ideal operating conditions. But there's more. The Scorpion's innovative compound of the Scorpion was developed using a process patented by Pirelli and derived from its experience in motorsport, which favours the performance of the tyre for longer on different road surfaces, especially on wet surfaces where driving conditions can become more critical.

SO QUIET!

The new Scorpion is also extremely quiet, with up to 3dB less in terms of the sound emission value of the European rating than the previous generation of the product, with consequent benefits for the environment.

This new summer tyre is now available in Europe with 26 launch sizes, from 18 to 21 inches, with more than 48 type approvals already achieved, over 75% for electric vehicles. In fact, across the whole Pirelli portfolio, the Scorpion family is the product range with the highest number of type approvals on electric or plug-in hybrid cars.
