The Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres, specifically developed for the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package, enabled the sports saloon to set a new lap record for electric cars at Interlagos in São Paulo. Featuring both high-speed and technical sections, as well as numerous elevation changes, the circuit in the Brazilian metropolis district presents a series of challenges that the car was able to overcome, thanks in part to the performance guaranteed by the P Zero Trofeo RS.
The record
Felipe Nasr, three-time IMSA champion and three-time 24 Hours of Daytona winner, set a blistering lap time of 1:42.1 minutes on the 2.67-mile Brazilian circuit. The new lap time not only slashed nearly eight seconds off the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2022 (1:49.8 minutes) but also edged out the prior time set by the 911 Turbo S (1:43.087 minutes) by just under a second. “The sheer speed at which the car accelerates and unleashes its power is incredible. The Taycan Turbo GT's steering was incredibly precise in the slow corners and remained stable even under heavy braking. Its balance and roadholding make it a true performance machine," commented Nasr.
The P Zero Trofeo RS
With its rally-inspired compounds, the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyre, designed for the most prestigious supercars and hypercars, sets a new benchmark in road tyre performance. It delivers exceptional grip on dry surfaces, precise cornering, and consistent performance, making it the ultimate choice for those seeking maximum track-day thrills. The ultra-low profile and extreme asymmetric tread pattern contribute to increased grip, offering optimal balance in handling. Cornering performance, in particular, is ensured by the external shoulder of the tyre tread, which features a low number of grooves to provide support under high lateral acceleration. Meanwhile, the tread design ensures rapid and uniform heating across the entire contact patch.
One of the stand-out features of the P Zero Trofeo RS is its consistent performance. Even under the most extreme conditions, it maintains high performance levels for longer, allowing drivers fully to exploit their vehicle's potential with safety and speed.
Elect technology
The tyres developed for the Taycan Turbo GT feature Elect technology, a marking that indicates a specific development of tread, construction, and compounds for electric and plug-in hybrid cars. This enables the vehicle to have greater grip to manage the high torque during the electric motor's launch and to cope with the increased weight of the EV. This specialty originated in 2019 on the first generation of the Taycan.
The P Zero Trofeo RS tyres will equip the Taycan Turbo GTs with the Weissach package also for the "Porsche Taycan Cup," the first all-electric one-make series reserved for the German brand's cars, which kicks off this year and takes place during the Carrera Cup Italia weekends.
