A new chapter has begun for McLaren with the debut of its first high-performance hybrid convertible. The Artura Spider, a convertible variant of the Artura already available on the market, is designed to combine the pleasure of driving with the performance typical of supercars, all with the wind in your hair. With just 11 seconds to bring the sky into the cabin, once behind the wheel, you can choose from 4 powertrain modes: Sport, Track, Comfort, and Electric (exclusively electric and emission-free), switching from the thrill of the track to a more peaceful (and quiet) daily use.
The enhancements engineered for the Spider have also been incorporated into the new model of the Artura coupe, introduced simultaneously.
BREATHTAKING PERFORMANCE
There are many features worth highlighting. First of all, the new Artura Spider, with just 62 kg more than the Artura coupé, is the lightest open-air supercar in its category (only 1,457 kg dry weight), with a weight difference of up to 83 kg compared to its rivals. And all of this benefits its performance. The hybrid powertrain has also been revised: it now offers 20 more horsepower from the twin-turbo V6, increasing the total output to 700 horsepower, with 720 Nm of maximum torque. As for acceleration, the Spider can reach 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 200 km/h in 8.4 seconds, and hit 300 km/h in 21.6 seconds, before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 330 km/h.
PIRELLI TYRES WITH CYBER TYRE TECHNOLOGY
To make the car even more special, Pirelli's Cyber tyre technology gives the tyres a sense of touch, allowing them to communicate with the car. Thanks to an electronic sensor in each tyre, real-time data is generated that provides the driver with essential information for driving safety. To increase onboard silence, Pirelli's noise cancellation system (PNCS) is also present, using a sound absorbing device inside the tyre wall.
The new British cabriolet comes standard with Pirelli P Zero and P Zero Winter tyres, which guarantee manoeuvrability and control over a wide range of road conditions. Optional are the P Zero Corsa, for use on both road and track, with racing compounds and unique tread patterns, providing higher levels of grip, as well as improved braking and traction.
STYLE ELEMENTS
Impressive performance and driving engagement are at the heart of the engineering philosophy of the McLaren Artura Spider. But what about the design? There are certainly many elements typical of an Artura, such as the sculpted bodywork, the "hammerhead" nose, the headlight air intakes, and the dihedral doors that open close to the body to facilitate access in tight parking spaces. But as a convertible, the new Spider is a supercar with its own visual identity, starting with the retractable hardtop. In short, the new "uncovered" British supercar is already an icon of design, between performance and luxury, with exterior/interior carbon fibre components and a wide range of color options.
