The Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS, developed specifically for the Lucid Air Sapphire, enabled the high-performance version of the electric saloon to achieve the fastest time for a production car at the Lightning Lap 2025, organised by the U.S. magazine Car and Driver. In securing the production car win at this year's event, the Lucid Air Sapphire also became the fastest ever EV and the fastest ever saloon in the competition, while also landing in the Top 10 of the all-time Lightning Lap leaderboard.
Custom fitment developed for Lucid Air
The tyres, co-developed by Pirelli North America and Lucid Motors, are tailored specifically for the high-performance Lucid Air Sapphire model: a staggering 1,234 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 1.89 seconds. With customised dimensions – 265/35ZR20 at the front and 295/30ZR21 at the rear – the Pirelli semi-slick, street-legal tyres deliver track-level performance, further enhancing the vehicle's handling and stability. The development of these specific Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres focused on maximising dry cornering grip, braking performance, driving balance, and thermal resistance. The tailored configurations were fine-tuned through rigorous testing in 2024, beginning at Thunderhill Raceway in California and continuing at the test centres in Papenburg and Nürburgring, Germany.

The fastest EV at Car and Driver's Lightning Lap
The P Zero Trofeo RS's status as the most sport-oriented tyre in Pirelli's road range is underscored by the new records set by the Lucid Air Sapphire. It achieved the fastest ever lap time among electric vehicles and four-door saloons at Car and Driver's Lightning Lap event, held on the 4.1-mile Grand Course at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), surpassing the previous year's records.
The performance of the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS was previously confirmed by the specialized magazine Auto Bild, which recognised it as the best tyre for super sports cars in a comparison test conducted on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
