Pirelli's Scorpion challenges the Mojave Desert

Scorpions, we know, love the desert. This is why Pirelli chose Red Rock Canyon, one of the most scenic locations in the Mojave Desert, half an hour outside Las Vegas, to field test its Scorpion tire range

The team dedicated an entire day to the exhilaration of riding on the tires that the long P develops for the most powerful performance SUVs and trucks on the market. In particular, this test focused on two of America's most popular brands, driving Ford's best selling F-150 and the much loved Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In the US, the long P develops a dedicated version of its Scorpion range specifically for this market, indicated by its "Plus" variant. In this instance, Plus indicates higher mileage for the tires, a perfect fit for the value and performance motivated American consumer.

The result is a range of robust tires, like the vehicles that it equips, reliable and versatile enabling safe (and fun!) driving even on rough roads and inhomogeneous terrain.

So, let's take a closer look at the tires tested first among the rocky walls and sandstone formations of the Red Canyon, and then on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Pirelli partners, the Dream Racing Team.

Scorpion All Terrain Plus: the Pirelli tire for off road lovers

What happens when a Raptor meets a Scorpion? We're talking about the Ford F-150 Raptor, one of the most powerful trucks on the market, especially when paired with the precision performance of the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus. The result is an explosion of power complemented by a style that screams!

The new Scorpion All Terrain Plus  presents an aggressive tread pattern with a robust carcass that makes it the perfect fit for safe and comfortable long distance driving. It is designed to deliver optimal off-road performance even on tough surfaces like rocks, snow, mud, grass and sand, which are ideal places for the F 150 Raptor and those that love the drive.

Thanks to its specifically designed tread pattern, the new Scorpion All Terrain Plus efficiently evacuates water, digs mud, and ejects stones under the footprint. The sipes, or smallest tread features, deliver a maximum grip even on slick surfaces.

The new Scorpion All Terrain Plus is suitable for tough off-road conditions, thanks to its reinforced sidewall and the shape of its blocks. It is marked with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) and M+S symbols. A 3PMSF symbol indicates the tire meets the criteria to be considered severe snow rated, while the M+S marking means that the tire meets the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) guidelines for a mud and snow tire.

Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II: The Tire Rack test champion

To equip the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Pirelli selected the Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II, recently launched in the US and already among the most popular tires in circulation. Indeed Tire Rack, the American authoritative tire, wheels and car accessories distributor, in a recent test has recognized the tire as a top performer in areas such as noise comfort and fastest average time.

The Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II is Pirelli's enhanced eco-friendly CUV/SUV Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of crossovers, sport utility vehicles and pick-up trucks. Part of Pirelli's Plus line of products, it is designed to better meet the needs of drivers in the North American market with a new tread compound, an optimized footprint for improved wet and dry handling and wet braking – all while maintaining the mileage, comfort, noise and winter performance of the previous generation.

It is written "Scorpion Zero All Season Plus", but it reads "Performance"

"Plus" in the Pirelli vocabulary indicates high mileage, in the same way the brand's "Zero" moniker means high performance.”

Derived from Pirelli's legendary P Zero performance tires, the Scorpion Zero is a Street/Sport Truck All-Season tire for sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. The Scorpion Zero All Season Plus is designed to provide year-round traction and handling for drivers who operate their light truck vehicles primarily on roads in various weather conditions, including very occasional light snow.

Depending on tire size, the Scorpion Zero radial's tread compound is molded into a single Z or double Z (two rows of Z-shaped tread blocks situated side-by-side) intermediate tread blocks to provide responsive steering, along with enhanced cornering and braking capability. Lateral grooves and wide circumferential grooves provide water evacuation to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet weather traction. Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires combine high-speed precision with low noise levels.

Thanks to these characteristics, the Scorpion Zero All Season has been chosen by the best car makers to equip their SUV's including Jaguar, for its E-Pace; Lamborghini, for the new Urus and Mercedes for its GLS. The team also tested this range on the Maserati Levante while in Las Vegas.
