Kimera EVO37: the icon of rally returns, with a modern twist
A legend of rally from the Eighties makes a comeback thanks to the work of a group of fans.
Kimera Automobili has presented the EVO37, an authentic evolution with a Restomod twist of the historic Lancia 037, produced in 1982 and the winner of the 1983 World Rally Championship, a veritable icon of global motor sports.
The mission of Kimera Automobili
Respecting the past while re-engineering the car, using the most modern and advanced solutions available: that was the aim of Kimera Automobili, a brand that is based on many years of business in the automotive industry, and that proposes evolutions of legendary cars, with the intention of drawing memories and emotions from the past into the present day. This is the spirit behind the Kimera EVO37, an authentic custom-built road vehicle: inspired by the past, it is optimised to provide the highest levels of driving satisfaction in analogue mode, an element that is so dear to so many fans but that is increasingly rare to find in modern supercars.
Cutting-edge technology
Inspired by the ancient Italian sporting glory, the Kimera EVO37 is made thanks to a contemporary design and construction process. Best-in-class methodologies and cutting-edge technologies in the field of motor sports, such as 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD, CAE, rapid prototyping, CNC milling, sintering, electronics … and the ultimate technological solutions available.
It is based on the Lancia Beta Montecarlo
Just like the car which the EVO37 draws its inspiration from, the starting point is the central cell of the chassis of the Lancia Beta Monaco for road use, to which are anchored two tubular structures both on the front and on the rear. The difference lies in the tubular structure which, in this evolution, is load-bearing. The engine, however, with the same four cylinder engine block as the original, has been entirely redesigned and re-engineered and, with its 2,100 cc and double supercharger (volumetric and turbo), it promises to be the most performing four-cylinder vehicle ever built: 505 HP and a torque of 550 Nm.
Pirelli's role
After the Lancia 037, thanks to the experience gained in the rally, Pirelli is again fitting the new Kimera EVO37 with P Zero and P Zero Trofeo R tyres. The car uses 18” front and 19” rear sizes, both with a lowered shoulder.
The signatures of Betti and Arisi
The project bears the signature of Luca Betti and Edoardo Arisi, and is intended to be a tribute and a celebration of the Italian models that have won rallies, in particular during the ‘80s and ‘90s. The Kimera EVO37 sums up the know-how and the typical Italian taste of those who have produced four-wheel icons, which have made the history of motor sports and have won over the hearts of all aficionados.
The muscular silhouettes of the previous car are now more modern, however retaining the same stylistic features: from the typical front with four headlights, to the side panels, up to the rally-inspired wheel rims. The result is a four-wheel sculpture, with a muscular and elegant design, produced with painstaking care, prized materials and components of the highest quality.
Just 37 vehicles produced
As for the production run, it has been limited to a total of 37 vehicles: a generous half of them has already been assigned to important international collectors even before its official presentation.
A wealthy list of enthusiasts is keenly awaiting to take part in a virtual tour over the coming months, which promises to offer customers a unique experience that is truly one of a kind.
For the dynamic presentation and Customer test drives, Kimera Automobili wanted to exaggerate: behind the wheel of the EVO37 fans will find Miki Biasion, twice world rally champion in 1988 and 1989.
