For this year's Pirelli Calendar celebrated photographer Albert Watson created a series of vignettes for the models who were each given a character to play. American actress Julia Garner took on the role of a photographer.
Actress-of-the-moment Julia Garner is only 24 but has had multiple film roles and a starring role in the Netflix series Ozark. Taking direction from photographer Albert Watson on the Pirelli Calendar shoot, she slipped into the character he had created for her of a professional photographer who works in a botanical garden taking pictures of the plants.
The character switches plants for people in her free time, capturing the human form in all its glory. Her first photography exhibition, a study of male and female nudes, achieves some success.
For her latest project she arranges a nude shoot of her friend, played by the model Astrid Eika. Watson captures her at work combining her two loves, the human form and the manicured nature of the gardens.
The 2019 Pirelli Calendar is released on December 5 featuring actress Julia Garner as “the photographer”, actress and model Laetitia Casta as “the painter”, Misty Copeland as “the dancer” and model Gigi Hadid as “the wealthy socialite”.
