Celebrating Pirelli UK Rising Stars

On the occasion of National Apprenticeship Week 2025: Pirelli celebrates apprentices

Home Life People interviews Celebrating Pirelli UK Rising Stars

Pirelli believes in investing in talent from the ground up, apprenticeships are key to develop specific skills and knowledge required for our industry. Knowledge and experience that can be passed on to the next generation to help keep the business moving forward into the future. We spent some time with Loys and Coady, getting their take on life at Pirelli, what they've learned, and their best advice for future apprentices.

Spotlight on Loys, Electrical Apprentice

My name is Loys, and I'm an Electrical Apprentice at Pirelli having joined in 2021, working on everything from installations to production machinery. I am based out of the Burton-on-Trent site in Staffordshire, where our tyre compounds are made and the home to our UK head office.

What made you choose Pirelli for your apprenticeship? Why Pirelli?

I wanted to gain real-world experience while earning and working towards my qualifications. Pirelli is a global leader in tyres, and the opportunity to work with advanced technology was too good to pass up.

What does a typical day look like for you as an apprentice at Pirelli?

Every day is different, from electrical installations to troubleshooting and maintaining production machinery. In general, my role covers all electrical aspects of our site, including power suppliers, installation, design, testing, production machinery and PLC fault-finding.

How does Pirelli support your learning and career development?

Through structured training, mentoring, and real-world experience in a cutting-edge environment.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

Go for it! You'll gain invaluable experience while earning and learning at the same time.

Spotlight on Coady, Electrical Engineering Apprentice

I'm Coady, and I'm an Electrical Engineering Apprentice at Pirelli's Carlisle site, completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship (MOET Apprenticeship Standard). I've been in this role since August 2022, where I support the maintenance and development of our manufacturing systems.

What made you choose Pirelli for your apprenticeship? Why Pirelli?

Learning on the job in a hands-on role suited me far more than a classroom-based route. The apprenticeship programme here is well-structured, with great opportunities for learning and career growth.

What does a typical day look like for you as an apprentice at Pirelli?

I work alongside experienced engineers, getting hands-on with electrical systems, repairs, and problem-solving. My daily activities include:

  • Planned maintenance on machines
  • Upgrades and modifications to machines
  • Maintenance of the factory building, including lighting and power circuits
  • Fault diagnosis and repair of machines and components

How does Pirelli support your learning and career development?

The combination of hands-on work and training programmes really helps build my skills and confidence.

How do you think apprenticeships benefit both young people and companies like Pirelli?

It's a win-win—apprentices gain real skills, and companies get fresh talent with hands-on experience. They create skilled workers who understand the business from the ground up.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

Be ready to work hard, ask questions, and take every learning opportunity.
