The open arms of the Brazilians
Christ the Redeemer, on Corcovado mountain, reaches out to everyone within his sight. Named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, the statue is a landmark for all religions and an iconic tourist attraction. Pirelli has had a base in Brazil for more than 85 years, the technology of its tyres has made it a market leader and it is always mindful of the needs of society. The path of the two icons crossed in 2004 when lightning struck the statue and the company sustained the restoration work. The benefits continue today, for example in the recently launched bracosabertos.com platform, introduced by the archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro and the tyre manufacturer to spread the habit of doing good deeds and safeguard the watchful eye that guards over Brazilians and all tourists visiting the city of Rio.
The main purpose is to raise awareness of and continue to support the doing of good deeds, championing the people who already strive to make the world a better place and encouraging the rest of society to do the same. Pirelli developed the platform to achieve this, seeking out the first stories and publishing them on the website. Ten people who help others have been named.
The website demonstrates Pirelli's special vocation which, by continuing to support the Christ the Redeemer monument, opens its arms to listen and share stories of good deeds done by people in Brazil and around the world. In the success of this movement, the support of the archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro in maintaining and conserving the statue, has been critical.
