These were the topics examined by S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM to establish the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe indices, which group the globally listed companies considered Top Performers in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability.
Pirelli was named world leader in the Auto Components sector again this year, with an overall score of 85 points, a further increase compared to the score of 81 achieved in 2018 and bucking the trend of the sector, that this year dropped to 36 points compared to the 2018 average of 38. Analysts explained that Auto Component suppliers play a crucial role in improving efficiency and safety, turning innovation into a distinctive and key element to gain a competitive edge.
Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are some of the most important stock market indices in the world. They were developed by S&P Dow Jones Indices of New York in partnership with RobecoSAM Asset Management, a Swiss financial boutique specialising in best-in-class sustainable investments.
The analysis concerned over 2200 companies in 61 industrial sectors through an integrated assessment of economic, environmental and social elements. Only 10% of the examined companies achieved a score allowing them to be included in the indices. Along with Pirelli, there are a total of five Italian excellences that distinguished themselves as world leaders in sustainability in their respective sectors, namely Leonardo for Aerospace & Defence, Terna for Electric Utilities, Saipem for Energy Equipment & Services and Moncler for Textile, Apparel & Luxury Goods.
